MAKING A MURAL
Downtown Chicago has one of the greatest concentrations of educational and cultural institutions in the country. To reflect that in the community, Columbia College launched the Wabash Arts Corridor initiative to activate and connect the neighborhood through one of the greatest collections of street art in any downtown district.
As a building that celebrates innovation and creativity, 1001 South State joined the WAC initiative in 2016 and commissioned local Chicago artist and Columbia alum Justus Roe to paint the vibrant mural found on the south side of our building.
Roe’s improvised style lives somewhere between traditional abstract art and wild style graffiti. This stunning original piece beautifully embodies the energy, emotion, and expression of the creative mind and proudly displays the culture and values of 1001 South State, where curiosity lives.Watch this showcase video and see a one-of-a-kind piece of authentic street art come to life.
